Ripple by “the grateful dead”
If your one of those people that didn’t like or get “the grateful dead” I was one of those but forgettabout it one the greatest albums ever did was American Beauty by the grateful dead. And that’s what I have to say about them.
If your a Zen person, Buddhist, Christian, or anything else. The words of the dead’s Ripple is the path that everyone has to go down but no one has put it in words that reflects the Yin and Yang of the whole thing better than the words that some how were gifted to the dead. So, hear they are.
If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine (say only truth)
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung (the music is in you)
Would you hear my voice come through the music? (one voice over all things)
Would you hold it near as it were your own? (the word is only yours).
It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken (know words are complete)
Perhaps they’re better left unsung (be quiet to hear everything)
I don’t know, don’t really care (must be non-committal)
Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water (a place that flows without thought)
When there is no pebble tossed(nothing is sacred)
Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty (empty is not full)
If your cup is full, may it be again (full is what we strive for)
Let it be known there is a fountain (life born)
That was not made by the hands of men (no hand could create the whole thing)
There is a road, no simple highway (the path you go)
Between the dawn and the dark of night(its hard to find)
And if you go, no one may follow (preachers, teacher can’t show the way),
That path is for your steps alone (it’s your only path)
Ripple in still water (waves without any help)
When there is no pebble tossed (nothing to help the waves)
Nor wind to blow (nothing helps the ripple)
You who choose to lead must follow (leading or following is the same)
But if you fall, you fall alone (it’s only you)
If you should stand, then who’s to guide you? (so you know were to go but you need help)
If I knew the way I would take you home (words cannot get you home)
La da da da…
