Adam McKay’s smart little apocalyptic satire is one of the best comedies in years, and a gut-punch of social commentary. Its slick, fast-paced, and definitely not subtle. But maybe thats just the kind of catharsis we need right now. Is it a metaphor for governments gross miss-handling of the Covid Pandemic, Climate Change, something else? Who cares. It hits the emotional truths of this era with a brave slapstick sensibility regardless of which crisis it may be pointing to. It strikes a clever balance between the absurdist humor of Stepbrothers/Anchorman and the nonfiction follies of The Big Short/Vice.
