Steven Kostanski’s Astron-6 team from Canada has made a genre masterpiece. This pitch-perfect love letter to 80’s and 90’s special effects movies is a real heart-warmer. From the effects shop that made “The Void” into a real stand-out Lovecraftian horror-show; this Power Rangers-esque creature feature is an absolute inspiration (to those of us into this sort-of thing).
The soundtrack is phenomenal. Instead of playing it for irony or laughs, it consistently strikes the right chord as if it were scored in earnest straight from the early 90’s. It makes the tone of the movie a heckin’ miracle. The acting is great, from the lovable loser father to the spitfire sister. Psycho Goreman (PG for short) is the ultra-violent family-friendly cult hit of the decade.
